Bikaner was founded in 1488 AD by the Rathore prince Bika. The city surrounded by rich desert so called City of Desert. Maharaja Ganga Singh (1880-1943), a most illustrious ruler of Bikaner, is remembered for his work in the city. Bikaner city has five gates, palaces, forts, havelies and temples made of red and yellow sandstone. The traditional aura in the city is evident in its colourful bazaars and havelies.
